I have been out of school and theoretically having more free time than I had for about a month now, and I have run into an issue.
I still don't have the desire to play much World of Warcraft.
I hop on, do a couple quests here and there and I am working on leveling a few characters in my off time, but even that is very sporadic at this moment. I am more focusing on other games, I still haven't beaten Diablo IIIs expansion, I have my free copy (thank you Origin) of DragonAge Origins I never really got into playing, and I am putting a stronger focus on getting some writing done.
So even though school is over for now, my playtime has not increased.
I am not unsubscribing anytime soon, I still enjoy little jaunts here and there, but I am just not playing in a meaningful way at this point.
Therefor, for the immediate future, I am closing this blog.
I would like to thank everyone who took the time to read through my mindless ramblings and opinions on the game over the last several years. I built up to over 200 posts here, went through a few changes and had a pretty good run.
This site with stay for now. I may pick this up again someday. World of Warcraft isn't going anywhere and in a year or two I might feel like hopping in whole hog again. When that happens I might have more to write about, more opinions etc. For now my focus is elsewhere even more.
I may see you in game. Feel free to say hi. I'm am still thankful to all the people I have raided with and played with over the years. I have some fantastic memories and experiences to draw on and as silly as it is to be emotionally tied to a game I am. World of Warcraft and the players have a special place in my heart.
I am not giving a long goodbye here. I am not going to poor my heart out for pages of writing. Of course that has never been my way in the first place.
We are in the middle of many changes for World of Warcraft. Content is flowing like never before, developers and keeping even the static content such as world quests flowing and changing. There are more ways to get rewards and develop your character than ever before, and it feels like the world is full and populated with other players again.
So the question becomes, looking forward how can Blizzard keep up this momentum?
New and fresh ideas need to keep coming. We know what the near future holds. We are going to get mini-holidays, three full tiers of raids, and more throughout the expansion. We are going to eventually go to Argus and take the Legion on their home ground, and we are going to have fully powered artifact weapons that we have spent hours on while doing so. At the end, we will be looking at 8.0. The next expansion. And yes, it is a little soon but I am wondering what will come next.
I don't think we will have another Legion based expansion after this. It will probably be old God based, or maybe we will have to deal with Bolvar as the Lich King. He has obviously changed in the role he now inhabits. Whether he is truly on our side or not, defeating the Legion was probably in his best interest. Whatever those interests are... I am not sure it will be in the living's favor.
We could also find other stuff in the universe. What about exploring the remains of the titan's homeworld(s). We could have an outer space adventure that is completely different from anything we have seen before. We may not beat Azshara this go round, and if so the naga may be something we have to deal with on a larger scale. If she pairs up with the old Gods then it might be a bigger struggle.
There might even be something new, something we cause if we defeat the Legion, because nature abhors a vacuum. If they are gone, what will take their place?
What features will the future hold? We already have an option for Horde and Alliance to be mercenaries in PVP, will we eventually be able to blur the lines while raiding? Will we see the end of the faction divide eventually as it ceases to make sense as we keep having to fight these bigger enemies? Players are still, and will always, ask for guild housing or player housing, will Blizzard give in eventually? If so how will that look?
What do you all think the future holds? How long do you think the game will go on? I firmly believe if they keep releasing content like we have now, it is possible, not necessarily probable, that WoW could hit twelve million again. What would that be like? And would Blizzard even tell us?
So fellow players, what do you think?

Blizzcon 2016 has come and gone and we were all excited for
the big reveals and commotion that comes with this event ever time it is
hosted. We were excited for Diablo,
Heroes of the Storm, Overwatch, World of Warcraft, and other Blizzard IP
news. This is where there is a ton of
cinematics, news, and upcoming features and games announced. I honestly feel that it was cool, but not
great this year.
Obviously my first love is for World of Warcraft, this is a
WoW blog and it is the only game that Blizzard has that I play on a regular
basis. I hop into Diablo III on rare occasion
or Hearthstone but the other games I haven’t gotten into. Mostly because I have limited time and I don’t
want another big time sink pulling me into another direction.
As someone who has played all three Diablo’s, I was disappointed
that there isn’t an expansion or Diablo 4 coming. I think the idea of going back to old Tristam
is cool. I love the thought of
Necromancers, but I only played them a little in Diablo II and getting me to
pay for a character pack is not likely to happen. I think Diablo III needed something bigger
this year. These little tokens are not
going to appease folks for long.
Hearthstone, I will be honest. New content is cool, but as a casual player I
know I’m not going to see the majority of it.
I might hop into the first wing if it is free to see what is happening,
but further than that I don’t want to grind the gold or pay the money on an
expansion that might last three to four months if it lasts as long as the last
expansion. Which feels like it just
barely dropped.
Overwatch, let’s be honest.
If you were a fan you knew Sambra was coming. Now one was surprised at her announcement.
Her Cinematic was cool, and I enjoyed it, but as far as everything else goes
you would have to talk to someone else on what it means.
Starcraft, I honestly don’t remember hearing anything. If I missed it then I am sorry.
Heroes of the Storm, the Varian Wrynn/Ragnoros reveal was
awesome, and it tempts me to dip my toe into that game a little. At the same time, the rest of the game you
would have to ask someone who plays a lot more.
And that brings us home to World of Warcraft. (Yes, I know there are other announcements
etc. in other IPs, but like I said, unless I delve deeper they don’t mean a lot
to me.)
In Wow we got a little preview of things coming up. We now know that flying will be available in
7.2. We know that we will get a new raid
at that time as well. Oh, and the
biggest announcement was that we will be going to Argus in 7.3.
Thank you Blizzard for not making Legion a two raid tier
expansion, I would have been seriously disappointed.
We are getting a new set of dungeons in 7.2. Arcway and Court of stars will become Queue
able. Artifact weapons will have further story line
to them. Dungeons gear and difficulty
will rise with the raid level to keep them relevant. Not sure how I feel about that last one. Another make a wish pet for those who like to
donate and get a digital cutie. And
other announcements like that.
So, a bit of news on World of Warcraft side, but nothing
that blew me away. I feel that it was
all very standard information that wasn’t a big surprise. There was no wow factor for Wow this time
around. Even Argus I was guessing from
the information given at the beginning of the expansion and the book
Illidan. Honestly given his history and
goals, it would be strange to get Illidan back and not go to Argus. That is his main goal at this point. Go to demon home world; destroy demons in a
place where they can’t come back. My
guess is that we won’t Armageddon it, and simply throw a bomb into Argus to
blow up the planet.
Am I off base here though? Was there anything amazing at
Blizzcon this year I am overlooking or undervaluing? What is everyone else
thoughts on this?

Honestly, if they weren't in a place so crowded as California and I thought I had the talent my goal someday would be to work for them in some capacity. Everyone I have met from the company, the way the love their own games, and the quality they aim for all impresses me. They make me happy.
Now I know that all seem contrary to the comment I made above. I mean, I'm sitting here fan boying a bit, and you know I'm a fan since I run this blog, but my title implies something different. The truth is after my last post on flying in Legion my mind has been on the big flight controversy in Warlords.
I stated at the time and I will state it again. I'm a firm believer that the biggest issue with the announcement of no flying was the way in which it was handled. At the beginning of the expansion we were told flying would be added in a later patch, and then right before the final patch there is an interview where (I believe it was Hozzikostas) casually mentioned they had decided not to implement flying. And the roar from the fans shook Azeroth. Or at least Draenor.
Much of the problem was with the way they presented it. This should have been something aimed directly at the fans. A post or a video you click on in you Blizzard loader that has Hozzikostas, or Metzen, or one of the other recognizable heads address the community head on and say "hey, we have decided to removing flying, and this is why..." Instead having it said in the interview made it feel like it was something Blizzard was hiding and that it may have been a slip. It raised the question, "If they hadn't said it here, would they have said it at all?"
I admit to having a short term memory, because I don't remember many other outroars that were that big. I know there was the moment when Blizzard decided to post on the forums your real name would be shown, but beyond that, nothing.
It does feel however that when it comes to Warcraft we are not getting as much communication as we used to. I remember there being blue posts and messages constantly through other betas/alphas but both the betas for Draenor and Legion have felt quiet. After Warlords dropped it felt a lot like Blizzards focus was on their other games. I believe it's part of the shift where World or Warcraft used to be Blizzard's #1 property, and now we are sharing the spotlight. It however does not feel good when it feels the focus has gone away and it leaves people wondering.
Here is where I give some suggestions to Blizzard (I know, I'm a short fat dude and they have no reason to listen to me. I'm going to speak anyway.)
First of all, next time you have a decision that may be controversial take a moment and discuss it with the community rather than just making the decision. The flight issue would have been mitigated by a lot if there had been some threads in the forums by blues saying "This is what we want to do and this is why, but we want your opinions." Yes I know there would be a lot of whining and pointless crap to sift through, but you could also take the pulse and get the feedback from the community before making a change. If it's something that would effect flying or another major mechanic you have given us, hold an open discussion with your fans.
My other piece of advice could work for all your games. Make sure you are talking to all your fan bases on a regular basis. I don't know if having a monthly update on the state of the game is the way to go, but fight the feeling the community gets of, "well, we are in Alpha, I've got months before the next expansion and Blizzard doesn't care, I mean they are focused on Overwatch." Make sure the doors of Blizzard tower feel open. Find ways to communicate that you do care. There is a reason that there is a #threetiersinthreeyears hashtag. It's painful, but there it is. Warcraft needs to continue to feel like it's important to you as well as the community. Long silences get interpreted by the community as you don't care. Even though I know for myself that is not the truth.
I know it seems over simple. But this is a relationship we have with you Blizzard. Like any relationship, you need to let the important people know you think they are important. Otherwise overtime you loose them.
